Q: How do I care for the wood bowl/vessel I buy from you?
A: We recommend cleaning the bowl with a damp cloth and then drying it thoroughly with a towel. Never leave it standing in water or put it in the dishwasher!
Q: The dishwasher?! Who would do that?
A: You’d be surprised … When we hear about this, it’s usually from someone blaming their spouse. :) For the record, we do not accept returns of items that have been put through the dishwasher.
Q: Can I put food in my wood bowl?
A: Our wood bowls are food safe for dry foods, unless the product description specifically says it is not.
Q: I’m cutting down a tree in my yard. Do you want the wood?
A: Thanks for thinking of us! Unfortunately, we do not currently have the space to dry green woods. We recommend you search out a woodworking guild in your area and offer it to their members.
Q: So where do you get your wood then?
A: With a limited number of exceptions, we generally buy our wood, already kiln-dried, from nearby suppliers.
Q: Your segmented wood items are so complicated looking! How do you do them?
A: Most pieces start with an idea that gets sketched out on engineering paper with a variety of possible silhouettes. When he decide which one he wants to make, Scott then starts doing the math to calculate how much of each type of wood he needs and the sizes and angles he needs to cut them.
Q: Do you use a laser or computer for your pyrography?
A: Nope! Ellie sketches her design in pencil by hand on the wood bowl or platter and then picks up her Razertip burner and begins to layer in the design and its shading.
Q: I see something I love but it’s sold out! Can you make me one just like it?
A: Please contact us and ask! While our work is all handmade, and exact duplicates are impossible for most of our items, we often can make something similar for you.
Q: I see a piece I really like, but I wish it were in a different size or different wood(s). Do you ever take custom orders?
A: Yes! We definitely do custom orders! Segmented wood items can take months to complete so we can’t whip out a special order instantly, but if you’re able to be patient, we will make you the perfect piece of wood art.
